#2 Nubbin
These tires are made in very solid Moulds. The mould is provided with vents to let out the air or for pumping the rubber into the moulds. Now the tiny rubber that sticks out of the tire is called a NUBBIN.

These Nubbins are pulled out with the tire as it is removed from the mould thus, clearing the holes for the next wheel to be moulded. So the reality is that the Nubbins have NO PURPOSE AT ALL.
In fact, you might not find them in the expensive tires. The manufacturers can use some techniques to ensure the production system catches the nubbins using expensive equipment!
