Plantar warts known colloquially as “fish eyes” are frequent, benign (non-cancerous) growths of the skin that appear as a small, grainy and rough lump on the sole of the foot or at the base of the toes. The skin is tough and thick over the area. It has a black dot, this is known as a “wart seed” but it is actually a clotted blood vessel.
Contact with this virus is usually frequent in humid and warm places: swimming pools, changing rooms, steam rooms and showers. It is highly contagious so members of the same family can suffer it.
