As per tragic reports, Trinity Ottoson-Smith had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks, but doctors were unable to save her.
John Elder, Minneapolis police spokesman, said: “For the last 12 days, she fought for her life and today that fight ended.
“At 4:04 p.m. she was pronounced deceased at the hospital.”
The nine-year-old was attending a friend’s birthday party with other children on May 15 when she was struck by a bullet. After being rushed to North Memorial Health Hospital, Trinity was placed in critical condition.
The nine-year-old became the third child to suffer at the hands of gun violence in north Minneapolis in recent weeks.Last week, six-year-old Aniya Allen was shot while riding in her family’s car and died from her injuries. 10-year-old Ladavionne Garrett Jr., meanwhile, was also shot in his parents’ vehicle on April 30. Ladavionne remains in critical condition. The victims’ families are now aiming to wage a war on gun violence, and want those responsible for the shootings to come forward. At present, there is a $30,000 reward for information that helps solve the three cases.“People know who did this, come forward with that information, you can remain anonymous through CrimeStoppers and still receive a financial reward,” said Elder.
My heart goes out to the families of these children. Guns are a terrible blight on our society, and it breaks my heart to see people continuing to fall victim to their reckless use.
