The recently released bodycam footage of police in Moab, Utah, talking with missing 22-year-old Gabby Petito and her fiancé, person of interest Brian Laundrie, has caused a visceral reaction.
Protestors have gathered outside the Florida home of the Laundrie family, who are originally from Long Island, where the Petito family lives and where the couple met. Their signs plead with Brian to cooperate with authorities in the search for Gabby, who was last publicly seen in August 24 as a Fairfield Inn and Suites near the Salt Lake City International Airport. She was last believed to be in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park and was due to travel to Yellowstone next.
Gabby was reported missing on September 11. Authorities then revealed that Brian had returned to his Florida home on September 1 in the van the two were traveling the country with, but without Gabby. Upon arriving home, he hired a lawyer and refuses to speak with police.
The fervor of protestors was ign!ted by recent bodycam footage, which shows a d!smissive Brian and a visibly upset Gabby talking to police after they were a subject of a 911 call for f!ghting in public. Both denied that Brian had caused Gabby any phy$ical harm, though he admitted to pushing her after she scratched him as they f0ught over a phone.
Brian’s sister, Cassie Laundrie, is the first member of the family to directly speak out. She acknowledged that she hasn’t been able to speak to her brother.
“I wish I could talk to him,” she said on <em>Good Morning America</em>.
“I’ve cooperated every way that I can. I wish I had information or I would give more.”
That said, she found the footage of the fight between them “typical.”
“It looked typical of both of them,” she told ABC 11
“Whenever they’d fight, they’d take a break and be fine.”
